The fill handle with text

Viewing tip: Press the 'Play' button, and then the 'Fullscreen' button on the right.

The fill feature lets you repeat patterns throughout Excel cells, and this includes text, not just numbers.

Placing text in any cell and then using your fill tool (the black square sign in the bottom right corner) will copy that text exactly throughout all of the cells you fill it to.

You can also fill multiple cells at a time, and the format will remain the same. For instance, if you put a word in one cell, then a different word in the cell below it, and fill those two cells, it will place the same 2-cell combination in its original state throughout your fill range.

In fact, it can copy any number of cells in this way and fill them wherever you’d like, both vertical and horizontal.
