Counting Numbers

Viewing tip: Press the 'Play' button, and then the 'Fullscreen' button on the right.

This feature allows you to take a quick poll of cells that contain numbers throughout your selection.

This can be useful if you need to know precisely how many cells in your selected range contain a number, for statistical or other reasons.

Like other formula functions, use the Sigma button to get started, or if you’d like to practice Excel coding, you can use the "COUNT" tag and parentheses, followed by the cells you wish to include.

Keep in mind that you can include large areas of your spreadsheet into a number counting formula if you need a comprehensive count.

If you start by selecting a range (and not by selecting the target cell for your answer) Excel will deposit it in the cell directly underneath the final cell of your selected range. So if you forgot to set a target, look for your answer there.
