Three Simple Examples of Using Conditional Formatting

Viewing tip: Press the 'Play' button, and then the 'Fullscreen' button on the right.

The simple examples in the accompanying video illustrate Excel’s conditional formatting capabilities when dealing with numerical values. Rules for formatting of numbers allow you to modify the style for values equal to, larger, smaller, or in-between some given bounds.

As you can see in the video, by selecting the relevant data and setting the appropriate rules, the program does the work for you. You can use these rules for other numerical values too, such as scores, amounts, hours, temperature and so on.

To conditionally format texts such as those appearing in the other columns, you can choose other rules made specifically for textual data (you can set them in the "text that contains..." option in the menu).
